Volksgarten is one of Vienna's most iconic venues, and on the first Thursday of every month it transforms into the legendary
Ü30 night - the over-30 crowd reclaiming the dancefloor with outdoor bars, outdoor and indoor dancefloors, terrace seating, and a level of enthusiasm that puts the youngsters to shame. This July, the first Thursday falls on July 2. Our reunion weekend. When fate comes calling, we listen.
Tickets are available online at a discounted group price -
buy your ticket here and skip the queue. Dress code is
casual.
Doors open at 6pm. Come when you can, leave when you must. No commitment, no roll call. Rumour has it that certain members of the group are already planning unofficial
Vorglühen gatherings before the evening begins. The committee officially knows nothing about this, but strongly endorses the concept. The joints will not oil themselves.
We should also warn you: Thursday has a confirmed programme. It begins with Armando and Saskia on the dancefloor - salsa, romance, everything tasteful and above board. It ends with Igor. His contribution has been described by the committee chair himself as
“the collapse of public decency and adult-themed folklore,” accompanied by what may or may not be a traditional Serbian folk costume. The committee has deliberately not followed up on this.
One more reason to be there early: Volksgarten will be showing the
Austria vs Spain World Cup round of 32 match live on the night. Kick-off is around 21:00 Vienna time, right in the middle of the evening. Come for the salsa, stay for the football, and brace yourself for whatever happens if Austria scores.
Leaving before the pole dance will certainly be a mistake. Or the wisest decision you have ever made. Who knows. Come early, stay late, and place your bets.
